When you are considering  the dressing of your reception venue you need to bear in mind the size of the room. You really need to think of the room as a stage set and dress it accordingly using bold shapes and colours.

Take a step back from the detail of the tables and consider the room as a whole, think of the impression that you want to make on your guests as they enter the room for the first time. Does it have the WOW factor?

If your room has a high ceiling you will need something with height. Remember that people will view the room as a whole not as individual tables. It is important to choose something that is either tall or very slim but not so big that your guests have to peer through a forest of flowers!

If your room is a more intimate space you may wish to use choose mirrored vases, they will bounce light around the room as well highlighting and reflecting your colours. Petals and 'dew drops' sprinkled on a coloured organza runner will give a very crisp contemporary look.

Don’t be tempted to use candles for a summer wedding. Once they are lit they will start to give off heat and leave your poor guests red faced and perspiring! If you would like to use candles - save them for the evening function when you can pop four or five tea lights onto the tables to create quite a different look. If you have mirrored vases the flames will look fantastic!

If you are using candles ask your venue to light them about 10 – 15 minutes before your guests go into the room this will allow the candles to settle down and the mood to be created

Be aware that not all venues will allow candles of any description or they may insist insist that they are either in a container or a hurricane lamp.
